What I Like

A Pre-Thanksgiving meal taste test of several ciders -- purchased by my sister and sampled by ourselves and assorted offspring -- left some clear winners in my book. My near and dear relations might not all agree -- we're an opinionated family, and man oh man do I love us -- but this is my blog, so the list goes my way. Hah.

Samuel Smith's Organic Cider - clear winner, very strong apple taste.

Spire Mountain Dark & Dry Apple Cider - very good, not too dry and something like a cross between cider and beer

Crispin Honey Crisp - our go-to cider. Reliably good.

*****

The Schofferhofer grapefruit beer at The Wurst Place in Seattle (fantastic name, right?!). If you pronounce it "Shuffer Huffer" they'll know what you want, and it's fun to say. Three times. Fast. Sit at the awesome 20-foot wooden table, beloved of South Lake Union tech teams.

*****

White foggy mornings and dark bitter coffee,
The smell of old books and a warm winter toddy,
Craning my neck to watch birds on the wing
These are a few of my favorite things.

Thunder and lightning and cooking and baking,
Crafting and using the things of my making,
Soft pretty yarns and the look of orange string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Turtles and kittens and spools of fine wire,
S'mores that are made on an evening campfire,
Science and sci-fi and people that sing,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the day's hard,
When the bills sting,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad.
